 Student of the Month
Chosen by a group of Middle School teachers based on improvement. The award is presented to one 8th Grade student at our morning meeting each month during the school year.

 Special Olympics
The Waunakee Optimist Club has volunteered for the Special Olympics since the 1990's. For years, our members helped with the Basketball skills. Last year, we began volunteering for Swimming as Waunakee hosted the event. (March)

 Ski Trip(s)
We sponsor two ski trips for Middle school students to one of the local ski hills (Tyrol Basin and/or Cascade Mountain) for an evening of skiing or snowboarding. Lessons are available and we provide the meal. We can either ski or enjoy the warmth and conversation in the clubhouse. (7th& 8th graders)

 Cakes for Mom / Cakes for Dad
This event is cosponsored with and held at Piggly Wiggly. We provide the children with a base iced cake, frosting bags with decorating tips and sprinkles. The children create a special cake for Mom / Dad. It’s a day of fun and mess with a lot of creativity and pride mixed in. (K-5th – Day before Mother’s Day / Day before Fathers Day)

 Senior Scholarship
The Waunakee Optimists arrange to give two $500 scholarships to college bound Senior applicants. These scholarships are available to students that are involved in 100 hours of volunteering in the community during their senior year. These are awarded in May each year.

 Golf Tournament
The Optimist Golf Tournament takes place soon after school is out at The Meadows
of Sixmile Creek. Boys and Girls grades 5-12 are eligible to participate. It is a fun day of golf. Trophies and plaques are given out to participants. Join your friends for great golf on a great course!!

 Oratorical Contest
The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships are awarded annually from this program.
